Learn About the History and Advocacy of Sole Mission

Sole Mission was created in response to an ever growing need in America: Shoes for kids. In March 2008, Alisa & Kelly Ward launched SOLE MISSION. Since that time, incredible things have happened. Thousands of children have received shoes. Sole Mission has provided over ½ million pairs of shoes to kids in need.

A letter from the Directors,

“Anyone who does anything to help a child is a hero to me.” — Fred Rogers, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood

As you have probably already read several times on this website, Sole Mission provides a new well-fitting pair of shoes to kids in need in the US. This is our clear and distinct mission. However, the implementation of our mission is so much more. Every child who attends a Sole Mission event, receives the undivided individual attention of a caring adult. New shoes are important and make an impact on the life of a child. However, the personal kindness and responsiveness Sole Mission volunteers show to kids who attend, demonstrates their importance and worth. Our volunteers receive hugs, hi-fives and huge smiles not just because of the new shoes, but because of the care and tenderness the volunteers show to the kids.

Thank you for visiting our website and learning about who we are and what we do. You can join us in making a difference in the lives of the children who attend our events. Please take a moment to make a monetary donation, or follow our Facebook page. Volunteer at our resource center for one of our shoe sorting parties or put shoes on a child at one of our distribution events. No matter how you choose to participate, you can know you are making a difference in the lives of children, and along with Mr. Rogers, you will be our hero too.

For the kids,

Kelly & Alisa Ward
Directors, Sole Mission

GRASS ROOTS

All the shoes collected have come from individuals, churches, and civic organizations donating shoes and funds to purchase shoes. This is truly a grassroots effort of people helping people.

People helping people:

Two young ladies, Lauren age 7 from Missouri and Faith age 13 from Texas decided to forego birthday presents in lieu of pairs of shoes for kids in need. They asked their friends to bring or send shoes to them to donate to Sole Mission rather than receiving birthday presents. As a result, Lauren donated 28 pairs of shoes and Faith over 100 pairs of shoes!! Dr. Doug Scott of Springfield Chiropractic dedicated two months of his clinics time to raising funds and shoes for Sole Mission. Over $1000 was raised as well as a number of pairs of shoes.

Hannah, a high school junior in Missouri, led a project to collect new shoes and monetary donations at her school and in her community. She was interviewed by the local newspaper who ran an article to help get the community involved. At the end of Hannah's shoe drive she had raised 125 pairs of shoes and $300 for Sole Mission.

The Sole Run Bikers Rally is held each year in April. Bikers from around the country gather in Cut and Shoot, Texas to enjoy a motorcycle ride, BBQ, Silent Auction, Concerts etc., all to benefit Sole Mission. To date the bikers have raised 5000 pairs of shoes.

From individuals, to business owners, to groups, grassroots efforts are being made to help Sole Mission provide new shoes to kids in poverty across the United States. Why not think about how you, your business, or your group can help us put new shoes on kids feet?
